So this week should have been my second week of service but I’m
quite sure that all 18 of my sweet children shared their germs with me and I
have a sinus infection. I have been in bed almost all week because I’m contagious
and not allowed in the schools. I have been able to keep in contact with Mrs.
Llyod and Jessica so that I knew what was going on at my site. I have heard that we have 2 new students,
which is great! I also heard that one of our children who has been crying most
of the day isn’t crying anymore J
I have also heard that some of our
students are being little trouble makers and making the days very interesting.
I was glad to be well
enough to participate in the 20th anniversary service day for
Americorps on Saturday in Bartow. This was a great experience and I was able to
meet many Americorps volunteers from all over Florida. Three of us went from
Stetson and we worked on projects at Bartow High School and a local elementary
school. I was able to work on painting portable libraries for the elementary
school, mulching areas around the high school, and collecting debris from a
storm the week before. By the end of the
day I was very sweaty and I smelled like mulch but I enjoyed the experience very
much and it was nice to do service that I don’t usually get to participate in.
I am glad to be slowly getting well and I am excited to get
back to the students at Starke on Monday J
