Summer of Service - Week 2

Hi all! So, my week has been really good! I have been working a lot in front of the computer, as I previously said, but it is a fun job too! I got to work with social media, especially on Instagram by sharing a little bit of my culture to CIEERVA’s followers. I also got to share recipes and such things, because they are really helpful and catch people’s eyes when you know, looking at their followers. Becky and I talked about how important social media is when it comes to raising awareness to the exchange program.

(me and my super awesome host family in Australia, January 2011:)

This week in particular, I got to tutor a girl in high school in Chemistry and Math, since she was having SOL’s (which are the standardized test’s here in Virginia, kind of like the FCAT I assume), as well as her finals.

Also, one other thing happened this week that made me REALLY happy! I place a child into a home, and after seeing how hard Becky works to place one student, I felt so proud! People were actually responding to my emails, and they really appreciated me telling my story, and decided to host. Some, though were not able to host, still answered me, thanking for my message and wishing me good luck in finding familiesJ

I was very excited to see how hard work pays off, and even though it was quite tiring to spend eight hours looking at a computer screen, it was working tJ  I got to do all of Chesterfield County, as well as Colonial Heights. I have started working on Henrico, but I see it will be a bit hard to get through it. Since I need to get the emails of all staff in every single school, as well as PTSA (Parent and Teacher School Association), it has been taking quite a long time. I have to type each one on a spread sheet on Excel, and especially for Henrico, I need to get each person’s email individually, because there is a code I have to type to be able to access each one! Wouf!!

I hope you all are having a great week!

Andrea:)
