Hey all! Hope you are all having wonderful summers!
So my
work at HUM has not exactly turned out how I expected. At first, I thought that
I would be working on marketing projects the whole time, but really I’ve been
spending most of my time doing food pantry responsibilities. Even though this
is not what I expected, I’m actually enjoying working with guests and
distributing food.
Working
in the HUM food pantry has allowed me to notice the differences – good and bad
– between HUM and the NHC. One of the biggest differences is the
responsibilities given to the volunteers. At the NHC, long-time volunteers have
far greater responsibilities than at HUM. For example, at HUM volunteers do not
have access to the database with all the client information, so anytime they
need to check someone’s eligibility they have to interrupt the case manager.
From what I’ve observed, guests are served much quicker at the NHC than at HUM.
But, maybe there is an unseen method to this apparent madness.
At PAL,
my work has been pretty much the same – spreadsheets, contacting parents and
coaches, and helping Bob, the director of PAL, get ready for practices next
week.
Anyway,
I am still loving working at HUM – even though I may not have as much
responsibility as I had anticipated – and PAL – even though most of it involves

Way to roll with the punches!
